Artist Statement

Hi my name is Giancarlo Macias and this is my first year taking Photo 2. Last year during my time in Photo 1 I enjoyed learning how to operate and take pictures with a film camera. I especially liked the fact of creating a picture manually by adjusting and altering the aperture and shutter speed. With my prior knowledge from Photo 1, I was able to expand my creativity and use my vast knowledge of the technical side of film photography to create more advance photos. Given the assignment sheet at the beginning of the semester, I began to become more aware of my surrounding and detail. Paying attention, to the theme and thinking of the pictures you wanted to take was important. Having an idea helped make going out and finding what you wanted to take pictures easier. One of my growths came in the form of emotion. Trying to capture emotion was not one of my strengths, but as the year went on it improved. My work as an artist would be shown as youthful. My pictures represent youth and things that make you feel alive. My creative has developed because as the year went by, I started to really try a make the picture look good. "Make a picture, don't take it." -Mrs. Crane. Looking for my inspiration didn’t necessarily come from one thing. Going out with the camera and looking for the right picture was my inspiration. My ideas evolved throughout the year by showing more effort while taking pictures. The beginning of the year I mainly took pictures of things that had a little creative. As the year went by, looking and finding objects that would make the picture was more important to me. The overall year went well and I would have to credit Mrs. Crane. She is my favorite art teacher. She always cares about her students and some people think she is one too! She will be missed in the photo department and will always be remembered as the best Photo 1 and 2 teacher there has ever been in Blue Valley North. Some say we are the number one school in Kansas, but I say Blue North has the number one art teacher in Kansas.
